A print of a moth - Purple Bar, Cosmorhoe ocellata
When I first met this species in my moth trap it stood out instantly. Its wings have a soft, velvety texture and the striking brown-edged dark blue (not purple!) bands across the middle have club-shaped eye-spots that wouldn’t look out of place on a playing card.
The Purple Bar’s caterpillars feed on various species of bedstraw, and the adult is widespread and commonly found in the summer months.
